On an evening where each team scored in streaks, it was Dalton who managed to get hot one extra time and pull ahead at the end. Dalton scored first, but a couple of goals in transition put Boyd Buchanan up early. The Catamounts got hot and ran out to a 5 to 2 lead. The third quarter saw Dalton go cold as the Buccaneers came charging back. Several penalties and sloppy play by Dalton allowed Boyd Buchanan to cut Dalton’s lead to 7 to 6 in the fourth quarter. With the game on the line, the Catamounts found their stride again, putting two more on the board to make it 9 to 6. The Buccanears found the back of the net one more time to close the gap to 9 to 7, but Dalton was able to get the ball and run out the clock and stop Boyd Buchanan’s comeback.
DJ Hutchinson won the majority of his face offs, giving Dalton precious extra offensive possessions. The Catamounts settled defense looked strong early, not giving up a goal until the second half. Dalton struggled with poor shot placement on offense. Often shooting the ball into the goalie’s stick, into defenders, or missing the goal entirely.
When things were going well, the Catamounts were able to bring in new players who will play important rolls in years to come. New players Chandler Clemons, Efrain Barajas, Aydan Betterton, and Yehia Hussein all got to see action in the mid field.
Dalton is off until April 9th, when they will host region powerhouse North Paulding.
