The Catamounts teed it up with 8 other schools at the first ever Octagon Tournament in Villa Rica Friday and Saturday. On Friday, which was a modified points scoring system Dalton captured the 2 seed and Davis Smith tied for first place with 27 points before losing in a playoff.
On Saturday the Cats battled 20-35mph winds as well as the other teams. They won match 1 against the host school Carrolton with a 3.5/1.5 score. The semi finals were a battle and not settled until the final hole. With all other matches completed and the team looking on Carter Pendley won 2 of the final 3 holes to beat the defending 4A individual state champion from St Pius to give the cats a tie with St Pius 2.5/2.5 with his match being the tie breaker.
In the championship match Dalton ran into perennial power and senior heavy Greenbrier. We had a chance to win the title on the final hole but came up just short in a match that was much closer than the 3.5/1.5 margin settling for a runner up finish.
Individual highlights: All players received at least a half a point. Davis Smith tied for 1st in the individual competition. Carter Pendley went 3-0. Davison Reynolds hit the shot of the tournament (that I saw) pulling 3 wood from over 220 yards into the wind over water and hitting it to 5 feet for a conceded eagle.
